A Legacy of Purpose:-
Mr. Ratan Tata is a name who is the pride of India and God of business. Rest of the businessmen did business after seeing which sector is good, which product is good, in which goods will be made, in which money will be made. Ratan Tata ji did business thinking that what is this? What work should the country need, which product, which industry should I go into, which will benefit the country? Rest of the businessmen are in the race to increase their bank balance and net worth and Ratan Tata is living in the
race to increase the honor and respect of India.
Transforming the Tata Group:-
It is dedicated to Tata Ji for what he did in the business world and society of India. Ratan became the chairman of Tata Ji Group in 1991. At that time Tata Group had a total of 95 companies and each company was working in different sectors. There was no unity among them.
Global Impact:-
No one was there, everyone was following their own pace, there was no central authority and the entire focus was on the Indian market, no one was paying any attention outside, the group’s revenue was only Rs 30000 crore and market cap was only Rs 30000 crore, then when Ratan Tata ji entered the scene. Listen to what he had done till the time he retired in 2012, there were small shortcomings of Ta Group, it was doing its own thing, centralized everything by uniting them where the focus was only on the Indian market, focused on the foreign market and today Ta 60% of the group’s revenue comes from abroad. Tata Group is the biggest employer of Britain, that is, the country which once ruled India, we are ruling there, we provide most of the jobs.
Behind Rajan Tata ji are the big names of Britain. Be it Tetley, Jagwar, Land Rover or Corus, he bought all the brands. The country’s second largest company TCS was listed under his supervision. When he joined, the sale was only Rs 14000 crore. When he retired, the sale was 5th. When he joined, the market cap was Rs 30000 crore. At today’s rate, Tata Group is the largest group in the country with a market cap of Rs 25 lakh crore. But how did he do this, what was his legacy in India and the world and this is the matter of business.
Early Life and Education:-
Apart from business, you will hear some stories related to how he was in his personal life, some stories about the charity he used to do and the stories of him who was Ratan Tata ji was born in 1937 to his parents. When his brother got divorced, he had to spend his childhood with his grandmother. In 1955, at the age of 17, he went to the US to study at Cornell University. He completed his graduation degree in 1962. Ratan Tata ji was an architect with a degree in Architecture at that time.
He was of the mind that the US lifestyle is fine and he should settle down there, but his grandmother had brought him up since childhood, his grandmother ‘s health deteriorated and his grandmother called him, come at once, let me tell the audience, it was not that Ratan Tata ji. I was in blood relation with JRD Tata or did he know that I am the successor of Tata Group, I am not the prince and he did not even claim to do so, he was doing his work as per his own will.
Joining the Tata Group:-
Got an offer and he was thinking of working in IBM. He believed in JRD Tata. He said no, you are somehow connected with that Tata Group. Please join and as long as you stay in India, you will work in Tata Group only in 1963. While he became 26 years old, he officially entered ta group. Initially, when he entered ta institution, he trained in tata motors for six months and then went to tesco, that’s today known as ta steel.
After a month of education there, he joined tata metallic as a technical officer and started out working there in 1969. After 4 years, he went to Australia to represent the group because Tata Group wanted a member, so he went to Australia and Tata Group. Ratan Tata Ji transformed that too and changed the company and there he showed it to JRT Tata.
Hey man, there is something in this boy. After the success of Laco, in 1971, he was made a director in Tata, which is his primary company. In 1975, he went to Harvard Business School. Did advanced management program from Tata Industries, became the director of Tata Industries in 1981 and what did he do there.
Strategic Leadership:-
He laid the foundation of Tata Group’s think tank which plans what should be done now to enter which new sector and enter into high-tech business. In 1981, in 1983, he launched Tata Salt, which is the salt of the country. It was our son who salted it. In 1986, he became the Chairman of Air India for some time and finally on March 25, 1991, he was made the official head of Tata Group.
He became the chairman and I liked this date very much because it is my birthday on 24th March, that is, when I was 2 years and one day old, Ratan Tata ji became the chairman of Tata Group. Let me tell you a coincidence, 10 days after this, on 4th April 1991. Anand Mahindra ji had entered the Mahindra Group, now you will say Rahul ji, look Rajkumar Sir ji sat on the throne in 1991.
Overcoming Challenges:-
Understanding this period, there was internal and external outcry on both sides, first of all let’s talk about the external outcry, the external meaning of the country at that time. The economy was open, look, before 91, the economy of the country was closed, so what was the license rule, that every company got a license to make every tank, that okay, this man will make this, this man will make this, he can make anything, no matter how he makes it.
The goods were being sold at whatever rates, so there was no tension at that time, there was no competition and everyone was doing their work. When the economy opened up in 1991, all the old groups that were there before foreign competition were flourishing. 91 After everything became clear, you don’t even hear the name, you are hearing the name of Tata Group because of the group, you are hearing of Bajaj Group because the leaders of these four were visionaries, they took over the group at that time 91 Before all those who were around them were gone, so in the period of time, these four leaders took over the country. This was external because at that time we had to fight with foreign companies and also with everyone else and the field had opened for internal challenge. So the more dangerous internal challenge was that sir, at that time there were 95 different companies of Tata Group.
Pioneering Global Expansion:-
I told you that in every company there was a person who was running that company according to his own, who had nothing to do with Tata Group. It was not to be given because the previous boss before him was JRD Tata. JRD Tata ‘s personality was so powerful that his voice had power.
Once he connected the phone, once he spoke, the man could not move here and there, but when he remained the chairman, Then every person started doing his own thing. When Ratan Tata ji also became a Russian, Modi did it. He believed that perhaps if he became the Chairman, he would have rebelled too much, so he had to face rebellion internally.
He did not stop this rebellion. While exercising complete control, the old people who were doing this kind of mind dictatorship were all removed. There was no retirement age. No person was working till he was alive. The age of retirement was removed and space was made for new talent. The rest of the group belonged to the same group.
Achievements and Honors:-
He gradually increased his stakes in the companies and increased the dominance of Tata Group, which was his chairman company, so that no company would be left here and there if Ratan Tata ji had not joined in 1991. By 2000, there were 20-30 companies of Tata Group in different countries. At that time, the focus of all the companies that were there without the control of Tata Group was to work in India.
They said, Hey India, we have to work in India, but how will an Indian company go out and make its mark? Beyond that, he started his efforts and started from the year 2000. In the year 2000, he bought Tetley which was a British brand. It created a stir all over India and the world that an Indian company went out and bought a foreign company and that too on its own.
Big Tati bought Tati, Tati was a small company, Tetley was a big company, so the small company bought the big company and India bought the British company, so brother, there was an uproar in the market as to what has happened and after seeing them, other businesses too I got the confidence that yes, we can also go out, we can also expand our business outside, we can also export, we can also buy brands, so this is the beginning of this gem of Indian company’s dominance of being fearless and being fearless.
This is the gift of Tata ji. In the same year, in 2000, he received Padma Bhushan, which is the third highest honor of India. In 2004, he brought the IPU of TCS. Remember, he had worked in TCS in 1970. He knew what the company was at that time. He did an IPO and as of today, TCS is the second largest company in the country.
Out of all the companies of Ta Group, TCS alone gives profit in 90%. DTH service Ta Sky was launched in 2006. In 2008, brother, he once again played a gamble, Jagwar. Bought a Land Rover and in the same year he received the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest honour. In 2012, as a chairman, he took retirement and wanted to appoint Cyrus Mistry as his successor.
In 2000, he received the Padma Bhushan, which was the third highest honour. In 2008, he received Padma Vibhushan which was the second highest honor but he deserves the country’s highest honor Bharat Ratna. However, news is coming now that the Maharashtra government has made some efforts and has proposed continuous pressure on the government.
If it is necessary to make it, then I have a request to all the fans of Ratan Tata Ji who respect him whole heartedly, do your trend # Bharat Ratna for Ratan Tata, I have shown you the hashtag on the screen, editor sir, show it to all of you dear brothers. We will train this. Earlier today, we had run a trend on BSNL which was echoed at the national level and this trend should echo more than that.
Commitment to Social Causes:-
If India needs anything, Tata Group comes first, so at today’s rate, we know that if we want to move ahead in technology at the world level, then we need Bhai Saheb’s expertise in its plant on chip semiconductor chip. It takes a lot of money, it takes a lot of risk, it takes a lot, not everyone can take risk, Ratan Tata ji has come, Tata Group has come forward and today the biggest work in the field of semiconductor is being done by Ratan Tata ji Tata Group only.
In today’s date, every The company is saying that we are exporting outside India. This inspiration was started by Ratan Tata ji. At 60, the revenue of Tata Group is brought from outside India. Whenever we talk about charity. There is a list of rich people, everyone else’s name comes in it, Ambani comes, Adani comes, Bajaj comes, Puwal comes, everyone comes, Rajan Tata ji’s name does not come in that list, because he said that now he is the biggest shareholder of Tata Group.
The biggest shareholder of Tata Group is Ta Trust i.e. whatever money this Tata Group earns, its dividend goes to Ta Sons and whatever money comes to Ta Sons, its biggest shareholder is Ta Trust and All that money is spent on social service. If seen technically, the owner of TA Group is a trust, not an individual.
Ratan Tata ji had donated Rs 100 crore to fight Corona. In 2008, when the Taj was attacked, someone Had he been a player, he would have said, ‘Oh brother, stay away from the terrorists here, we are safe. Ratan Tata ji was standing on the road as long as the terrorists were there and the operation was going on Ratan Tata ji himself was monitoring the entire situation there and Whoever got injured there or who suffered trauma, whether it was a hotel employee or anyone around the hotel or any XYZ, they are still running services for everyone, for that a separate Taj Public Service Trust was formed, which is the hotel. And even today he is working to serve the people around him.
If you have a house worth Rs 2000-5000 crore or an office, such an expensive house, if a stray dog comes to your office, what will you do? Will you say, Sir, I am a guard. I will keep him, I will drive him away, I will do this. Rajan Tata ji once saw stray dogs roaming in Bombay House and he said, Oh man, where will these poor people eat? He has made a separate arrangement in Bombay House where stray dogs can be kept.
Compassionate Leadership:-
A place has been created for them so that they can come and stay here and they make arrangements for their food. Some people say that sir, if you want to become big in business then you have to smoke, drink alcohol, go to parties, go to the country. The most respectable person and the creator of the country’s biggest group, he himself never smoked, never drank, he was a simple tea totaler, there is another story related to his dog, when the Queen of Britain called him and asked him to give him the title of Sir Ratan Tata Ji.
Will give on that particular day when the honor was going to be given. When he did not reach there, he found out why he did not reach. When he did not reach, he found out that one of his dogs was unwell. He said that it is important to take care of it. Awards keep coming and going, so a simple dog. He is Ratan Tata. Ratan Tata ji is the God of business .
