Ratan Tata is the great-grandson of Tata Group founder Jamshedji Tata and the son of Naval Tata and Soni Commissioner when Ratan Tata was 10. They separated when he was one year old, after which he was formally adopted by his grandmother Nawaz Bai Tata. Ratan Tata was brought up with his half-brother Noel Tata, the son of his father Naval Tata and Simon Tata.
1991 When JRD Tata resigned from the post of Chairman of Tata Sons in 1977, he made Ratan Tata his successor. During his 21-year tenure, revenue increased more than 40 times and profit increased more than 50 times. After completing the age of 75, Ratan Tata resigned from the post of Chairman of Tata Sons on 28 December 2012, but even today Ratan Tata remains the biggest brand ambassador of the Tata Group.
